Live at Montreux 2011
Live at Montreux 2011 captures Deep Purple at the Montreux Jazz Festival on 16 July 2011, joined by the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt under conductor Stephen Bentley-Klein. The band is billed as Deep Purple with Orchestra, and the line-up is the one known as MK VIII. It came out on 7 November 2011 through Eagle Rock Entertainment as a double CD, with the concert film also issued on DVD and Blu-ray.
The record sits among the band's long run of live releases, and it is worth hearing for the pairing of a hard rock group with a full orchestra on one of Europe's best-known festival stages. A vinyl collector's edition followed in 2015 for Record Store Day, which says something about how much attention it continued to attract. If you enjoy hearing familiar band material given a wider, more orchestral frame, this is the one to try.
