The Stench of Redemption
The Stench of Redemption is the eighth studio album by Florida death metal band Deicide, released in August 2006 on Icarus Music. It follows Scars of the Crucifix from 2004 and comes after a significant change behind the scenes: brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman were gone, and the guitar slots went to Jack Owen, formerly of Cannibal Corpse, and Ralph Santolla, formerly of Iced Earth.
The new pairing gave the band a fresh spark, and many critics welcomed the record as a return to form. It also became Deicide's most successful release up to that point, reaching No. 11 on the Top Heatseekers chart. Some editions add a cover of Deep Purple's "Black Night", with new lyrics written by Glen Benton, which makes a curious bonus for anyone who likes to hear extreme metal bands nod to the hard rock of the past.
