Deicide

Deicide are a death metal band from Tampa, Florida, who began in 1987 as Carnage, with drummer Steve Asheim and guitarist brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman. After bringing in bassist and vocalist Glen Benton, they became Amon, then settled on Deicide in 1989. They are still active today.

Their lyrics deal with Satanism, anti-Christianity and blasphemy, which brought bans, lawsuits and plenty of controversy. The first three albums, Deicide (1990), Legion (1992) and Once Upon the Cross (1995), are regarded as death metal classics. Legion brought them mainstream success, and the first two records rank among the best-selling death metal albums of the SoundScan era. Thirteen studio albums have followed since the debut, the latest being Banished by Sin in 2024. In the Minds of Evil (2013) is another record fans return to.
