Death were an American death metal band from Altamonte Springs, Florida, formed around guitarist Chuck Schuldiner, who later became the sole vocalist. Their line-up shifted constantly, with Schuldiner the one steady presence throughout. They came out of the Florida scene that shaped the genre, and they are widely seen as pioneers of death metal.

Their 1987 debut, Scream Bloody Gore, sits among the first death metal records. Over seven studio albums the sound moved from the raw attack of that record and Leprosy towards something more complex, reaching into technical and progressive territory. Human, Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance are among the albums listeners return to most. Fans of Morbid Angel, Carcass and Opeth will find plenty to enjoy here.
