Obituary are an American death metal band from Tampa, Florida, formed in 1984 under the name Executioner. They became a key part of how death metal took shape, and they rank among the genre's most successful acts. Vocalist John Tardy, his brother, drummer Donald Tardy, and rhythm guitarist Trevor Peres have been the constant presence through every line-up change. Bassist Terry Butler and lead guitarist Ken Andrews complete the current band.

Their sound is old school death metal, and the debut Slowly We Rot arrived in 1989. Cause of Death followed in 1990 and remains the record people reach for first, with The End Complete (1992) and Frozen in Time (2005) also well loved. Apart from a hiatus between 1998 and 2003, they have kept playing live, and eleven studio albums later, Dying of Everything came out in 2023.
