Cause of Death
Cause of Death is the second album by Obituary, the Florida death metal band, released on 19 September 1990. It followed Slowly We Rot from 1989 and came out through Roadrunner Records, with the band working at Morrisound Recording in Tampa under producer Scott Burns.
The sound has been likened to Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, and the lyrics dwell on graphic violence. Together with its predecessor, it is regarded as a landmark of the genre, which makes it a natural place to start for anyone tracing how death metal took shape in Florida at the start of the 1990s. It also sets up the band's next record, The End Complete, which arrived in 1992.
