Slowly We Rot is the debut album from Obituary, the American death metal band, released in 1989 on R/C Records. It was recorded at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida, with Scott Burns producing. It remains the only Obituary record to feature bassist Daniel Tucker, and lead guitarist Allen West left soon afterwards before returning for The End Complete in 1992.

What makes it worth hearing is how it sits within the genre's early days. It has the guttural vocals, double bass drumming and blast beats that defined death metal, and it builds on the groundwork laid by bands such as Death and Possessed. Yet the music feels slower and groovier than much of what surrounded it at the time, and that weight is a big part of its appeal. It is widely regarded as a landmark in the style's development.
