Darkest Day
Darkest Day is the eighth studio album by American death metal band Obituary, released on 30 June 2009 through Candlelight Records USA. It followed Xecutioner's Return from 2007 and Frozen in Time from 2005, the records that marked the band's return after the break that followed Back From the Dead in 1997.
It also marks a changing of the guard. This is the last Obituary album to feature both bassist Frank Watkins, who had been in the band since Cause of Death in 1990, and guitarist Ralph Santolla. For anyone tracing the group's story from Slowly We Rot through to Inked in Blood in 2014, it captures a particular line-up at the end of its run, and it is well worth hearing for that reason alone.
