Live & Rare
Live & Rare gathers Rage Against the Machine's live recordings and rarities in one place. It was the band's first live album and their first compilation, pulling together what the band called "official bootlegs" that had previously turned up on other singles, alongside a pair of tracks from their 1991 demo. That makes it a handy way to hear the group before and around the time of their first two studio albums.
It came out in 1998 on CD only, through Sony Music Japan, so listeners elsewhere had to track down an import. It sits between Evil Empire (1996) and The Battle of Los Angeles (1999). The wait for a wider release was a long one: vinyl editions appeared in the United States and Europe in 2018, and a digital release followed on July 14, 2022.
