Pixies at the BBC
Pixies at the BBC gathers radio sessions the American alternative rock band recorded for the BBC between 1988 and 1991. It came out on 6 July 1998 on 4AD, with Elektra releasing it in the United States on 14 July, five years after the band first split.
The sessions span the group's original run, taking in the years from their earliest records through to the period of Trompe le Monde. The sound is raw and under-produced, so these are the songs stripped of studio polish and caught close to how the band played them. For anyone who knows Surfer Rosa and Doolittle well, it offers a fresh angle on familiar material. A fuller edition, Pixies at the BBC, 1988-91, followed on 8 March 2024 and collected all 24 tracks from those sessions.
