Across a Wire: Live in New York City
Across a Wire: Live in New York City is Counting Crows' third album, a double live set released in 1998 on Geffen. It draws on their first two studio records, August and Everything After (1993) and Recovering the Satellites (1996), and arrived between that second album and This Desert Life. The RIAA certified it platinum, helped by the fact that it came as two discs.
The two halves show the band in different moods. The first disc, taken from a VH1 Storytellers session, is acoustic and intimate, and ends with a previously unreleased hidden track, "Chelsea". The second, recorded for MTV's Live from the 10 Spot, is louder and more direct. Hearing the same songs in both settings is the real appeal. The cover photograph, by David Plowden, shows electrical poles with the Statue of Liberty behind them.
