Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings
Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings is the fifth studio album by Counting Crows, released in March 2008 on Geffen. It follows Hard Candy and arrives as the band's first record of the second half of the 2000s. The album is split into two halves: Saturday Nights is the rock side, produced by Gil Norton, who also worked on Recovering the Satellites, while Sunday Mornings leans towards country and was produced by Brian Deck, known for Modest Mouse's The Moon and Antarctica.
Adam Duritz has described the record as being about wanting your life to mean something and falling short of the person you hoped to become. That ache runs through both sides, and the shift from loud night to quieter morning gives it a shape worth hearing in sequence. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200, the band's highest chart placing since Recovering the Satellites.
