The Beacon Street Collection
The Beacon Street Collection is the second studio album by No Doubt, released in 1995. The band made it themselves in a homemade studio in the garage of their house in Anaheim, California, and the title nods to the street the house stood on. They had piled up far more songs than Interscope Records would ever use, especially after their 1992 debut failed commercially and the label lost interest, so they built their own space and put the music on their own Beacon Street Records. "Squeal" and "Doghouse" were the two singles.
It matters as much for what it led to as for the songs, which mix rock, pop rock and ska. The album sold over 100,000 copies, more than three times the debut's total, and that persuaded Interscope to fund Tragic Kingdom, which went on to sell 16 million copies worldwide. Interscope later reissued this record in 1997 as part of the band's back catalogue.
