Rock Steady
Rock Steady is the fifth studio album by No Doubt, released on 11 December 2001 through Interscope Records. It followed Return of Saturn (2000), and the band took a far more adventurous route this time, writing in Los Angeles and San Francisco before travelling to London and Jamaica to work with an assortment of producers, songwriters and performers, among them Sly & Robbie, the Neptunes and William Orbit.
The result roams across electropop, dancehall and new wave, with the band trying to capture the feel of Jamaican dancehall and even writing some songs without the usual rock line-up. Gwen Stefani wrote her lyrics faster than on earlier records, covering everything from nights out to thoughts on her relationship with Gavin Rossdale. Reviews were mostly positive, the album outsold its predecessor, and two of its four singles won Grammys. It was also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
