Album
Return of Saturn
Return of Saturn is No Doubt's fourth studio album, and the first made as a quartet after keyboardist Eric Stefani left in 1994. It came out in April 2000 on Interscope Records, following two and a half years of touring behind the breakthrough Tragic Kingdom. The follow-up took two years to finish, with tension within the band and with the label, and was completed only after they went back into the studio and recorded what became two of its singles.
The ska punk and reggae roots are still there, but the songs are slower and more ballad-like, with producer Glen Ballard at the helm. Much of it finds Gwen Stefani weighing a longing for a more settled home life against her devotion to music. Reviews were favourable, though some critics were split over the change in sound. It entered the Billboard 200 at number two and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
