Rock Steady is No Doubt's fifth studio album, released on 11 December 2001 through Interscope Records. It followed Return of Saturn (2000), and it marked a change of approach: after starting out with writing and recording sessions in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the band travelled to London and Jamaica to work with a long list of performers, songwriters and producers, among them Sly & Robbie, the Neptunes and William Orbit.

The results lean towards electropop, dancehall and new wave, with the band chasing the feel of Jamaican dancehall and trying out songs written without the usual line-up of instruments. Gwen Stefani wrote her lyrics faster than before, moving from party songs to thoughts on her relationship with Gavin Rossdale. Four singles came from it, two of which won Grammys, and the album outsold Return of Saturn. Rolling Stone placed it at number 316 on its 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums.
