Pump is Aerosmith's tenth studio album, released on 12 September 1989 on Geffen. It followed Permanent Vacation and was the second of three records the band made in succession with producer Bruce Fairbairn, with engineers Mike Fraser and Ken Lomas, at Little Mountain Sound Studios. The sound leans on hard rock but takes in blues rock and pop rock too, which suits a record so full of hooks.

It turned into a major success. "Love in an Elevator" became the band's first number one on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and "Janie's Got a Gun" won them their first Grammy. "The Other Side" and "What It Takes" also reached the US Top 40. The album peaked at No. 5 in the US, went seven times Platinum, and was the fourth best-selling album of 1990. Two video documentaries on the making of it followed in 1990.
