Night in the Ruts is Aerosmith's sixth studio album, released on 16 November 1979 on Columbia. It arrived after a run of records that began with Toys in the Attic and Rocks, and it was made at a difficult moment for the band. Joe Perry left midway through the recording, which leaves a mark on the whole project.

The sessions began at the band's Wherehouse rehearsal space with Jack Douglas, who had produced their previous four albums. Columbia later brought in Gary Lyons to take over production. It is a record shaped by change, sitting between the band's 1970s hard rock and blues rock peak and the lean years that followed, with Rock in a Hard Place next in 1982. Worth hearing for fans who want to know how the original line-up came apart.
