Album
SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN.
Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. is the tenth studio album by The Smashing Pumpkins, released on 16 November 2018 through Napalm Records. It began life as a plan for two four-song EPs before taking shape as a single album, and it was trailed by the singles "Solara", "Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)" and "Knights of Malta". It reached number fifty-four on the US Billboard 200.
The record matters for who is on it. Rick Rubin produced, and the line-up brings back founding guitarist James Iha, absent since Machina II (2000), and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, who had last played on Zeitgeist (2007). Its mix of alternative rock, hard rock and power pop makes it a good place to hear the band's reunited core, between Monuments to an Elegy (2014) and CYR (2020).
