Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, Vol. I: Songs for a Sailor
Songs for a Sailor is the first instalment of Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, the project Billy Corgan began in late 2009 after drummer Jimmy Chamberlin left The Smashing Pumpkins for the second time. The EP came out in December 2009 with Mike Byrne on drums.
The wider plan was ambitious: a 44-song concept album loosely inspired by the Tarot, with each track released individually as a free download. Songs for a Sailor was followed by a second EP, The Solstice Bare, and the band later moved back to conventional album releases, which led to Oceania in 2012. For anyone tracing how the Pumpkins got from Zeitgeist to their later records, this is where that chapter begins.
