Monuments to an Elegy
Monuments to an Elegy is the ninth studio album by The Smashing Pumpkins, released in December 2014. Billy Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder recorded it as a duo, with Tommy Lee guesting on drums. It follows Oceania as part of Corgan's 34-track Teargarden by Kaleidyscope project, and it turned out to be the final instalment when the project was cancelled in 2018.
It is a record caught between line-ups. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin returned in 2015 and guitarist James Iha in 2018, so this stands as the last album made without them. Critics were generally positive, though it sold modestly, reaching number 33 in the US and number 59 in the UK. For fans who follow the band's story closely, it is a revealing stripped-back chapter.
