Greatest Hits
Rotten Apples, titled The Smashing Pumpkins – Greatest Hits on its cover, is the Chicago band's career compilation, released by Virgin on 20 November 2001 in the US and a day earlier in the UK and Europe. The name comes from a B-side that first appeared on the "Tonight, Tonight" single. In the US, it came with a bonus disc called Judas O.
It arrived just after the band had called it a day, and it closes with "Untitled", their last recording before the split. They finished it in the days before their farewell show at the Metro in Chicago, and it was also issued as a single. Fans may also note "Real Love", which was first heard on Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music. This version is taken from the factory master tapes, so it lacks the pops and clicks of the vinyl-sourced original. The album reached number 31 in the US.
