Album
Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist is the seventh studio album by the Smashing Pumpkins, and the first made after the band reunited in 2006. Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin recorded it as a duo, with Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date producing alongside them. It came out in July 2007 on Martha's Music, led by the single "Tarantula", and sits between MACHINA II in 2000 and Oceania in 2012.
It entered the US chart at number two, though sales soon fell away and reviews were mixed. It still went Gold in the States in early 2008. The record also marks a turning point for the line-up: the touring band built around it brought in guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who became a core member, while Chamberlin would not appear on another Pumpkins album until 2018. Worth hearing for the hard-edged rock sound of the reunion.
