Never Mind the Bollocks Here’s the Sex Pistols
Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols is the only studio album by the English punk band, released through Virgin on 28 October 1977. By then the group had already swapped profanity on live TV for notoriety, been dropped by two labels and been banned from playing in parts of Britain. The title stirred up more trouble: many shops refused to stock it, and some charts left a blank space where it should have been.
The recording was as unsettled as the band. Glen Matlock left early on and plays on only "Anarchy in the U.K.", while Sid Vicious, who replaced him, appears on just two tracks. Steve Jones covered most of the bass himself, alongside Paul Cook's drums and Johnny Rotten's sneering, half-sung vocals. It entered the UK chart at number one and spent 48 weeks in the top 75. Its raw energy is why it is so often named the most influential punk album.
