California
California is blink-182's seventh studio album, released on 1 July 2016 through BMG, the only record they made for the label. It is the first with Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, who stepped in for founding member Tom DeLonge after disagreements led to his departure. Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker recruited Skiba, and brought in John Feldmann as sole producer, the first since long-time collaborator Jerry Finn.
The band wrote dozens of songs, shelved them to start afresh, then recorded 28 more at Foxy Studios, with days in the studio often stretching to 18 hours. In all they recorded upwards of 50 songs. It went to number one in the US and the UK, their first chart-topper in the US for 15 years and their first ever in Britain, and earned a first Grammy nomination, for Best Rock Album. Critics were mixed: some welcomed the return to their classic sound, others found it overlong. "Bored to Death" and "She's Out of Her Mind" were the first singles.
