Hardwired… to Self‐Destruct
Hardwired… to Self-Destruct is Metallica's tenth studio album, released on 18 November 2016 as a double album on the band's own label, Blackened Recordings. It was the first record they put out through Blackened, and it arrived eight years after Death Magnetic, the longest wait between studio albums in their career. Greg Fidelman, who had engineered and mixed that earlier record, produced it.
The album went straight to number one on the US Billboard 200, with 291,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, and topped the charts in 57 countries. It was Metallica's sixth consecutive studio album to debut at the top in America, something only one other band had managed before. Critics were generally positive, which makes this a worthwhile stop for anyone following the band's later years.
