Garage Inc.
Garage Inc. is a double album made up entirely of cover songs, released by Metallica on 24 November 1998. The first disc holds new recordings made with producer Bob Rock over three weeks in autumn that year. The second gathers earlier covers, including B-sides and the whole Garage Days Re-Revisited EP from 1987. Much of that older material had been widely bootlegged, so the band put it together in one place. The title nods to "Damage, Inc." from Master of Puppets.
It arrived between Reload and St. Anger, and works as a map of the band's influences: Black Sabbath and Blue Öyster Cult, new wave of British heavy metal names like Diamond Head and Sweet Savage, and hardcore punks Discharge. Singles included Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" and Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar". Critics generally liked it, noting how firmly Metallica stamped their own style on the songs, though some found the choices too obscure.
