Cunning Stunts
Cunning Stunts is Metallica's live video release, put out on 8 December 1998 on DVD and VHS, with a Japanese LaserDisc edition following in 1999. It was filmed over two nights in May 1997 at the Fort Worth Convention Center in Texas, on the tour that followed Load, the band's 1996 album.
It sits between the Load and Reload era and the band's later work, and it is as much a package as a gig. Alongside the concert you get interviews, a documentary, behind-the-scenes footage and a gallery of around 1,000 Anton Corbijn photographs, some of which appeared in the Reload sleeves. Three performances offer multiple camera angles. The showpiece is "Enter Sandman", where the stage seems to collapse and explode, and a technician known as the "Burning Dude" sprints across it on fire. It is also one of the few Metallica shows without "The Ecstasy of Gold" as its intro.
