Aerosmith's self-titled debut arrived on 5 January 1973 on Columbia Records, the first of fifteen studio albums the band would make. It is sometimes mistakenly called Make It, after its opening track, but the name on the sleeve is simply Aerosmith. The music sits in hard rock and blues rock, and it captures the American band at the very start of a long career.

Its story really unfolds a few years after release. "Dream On" came out as a single in 1973, then returned on 27 December 1975 and became a US top ten hit. That success pulled the album along with it, and it peaked at number 21 on the Billboard 200 in 1976. If you know the band from their later, glossier years, this is the place to hear where it all began.
