Album
Grace
Grace is the only studio album Jeff Buckley finished, released on 15 August 1994 through Columbia. He made it with producer Andy Wallace, mostly at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York, alongside Gary Lucas, Mick Grondahl, Michael Tighe and Matt Johnson. Buckley had moved from Los Angeles to New York in 1991 and built a following with performances at the East Village cafe Sin-é, which led to his Columbia deal in 1993.
The record mixes his own songs with striking covers: the jazz standard "Lilac Wine", the hymn "Corpus Christi Carol" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". It stalled at number 149 on the US Billboard 200 and reviews were mixed at first. After Buckley's death in 1997 its reputation grew, drawing praise from Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan and David Bowie. It has since gone platinum in the US, and his "Hallelujah" reached number two in the UK.
