Burn My Eyes
Burn My Eyes is the debut album from Oakland, California band Machine Head, released in August 1994 on Roadrunner Records. It opens the story of a group who would go on to make a long run of studio albums, from The More Things Change… in 1997 through to UNATØNED in 2025. It is also the only one of those records to feature drummer Chris Kontos.
The music sits in the groove-leaning corner of thrash and heavy metal, and the mood comes straight from the band's surroundings. Robb Flynn's lyrics draw on the social disorder and simmering tension around Oakland, touching on events such as the 1992 Los Angeles Riots and the 1993 Waco Siege. The title comes from a line in the breakdown of "Old": "Burn my eyes and try to blind me". It shipped over 400,000 copies worldwide, making it Roadrunner's best-selling debut until Slipknot's first album overtook it.
