Machine Head are an Oakland, California metal band formed in 1991 by vocalist and guitarist Robb Flynn, who remains the only original member. Their sound began as a blend of thrash and groove metal, with traces of nu metal, and their debut, Burn My Eyes, arrived in 1994. Their first four albums built a growing following in Europe, while success in the United States came later.

The turning point was The Blackening in 2007, a return to a more traditional thrash sound with longer songs. It earned critical acclaim, was named Album of the Decade by Metal Hammer in 2010, and its first single, "Aesthetics of Hate", received a Grammy nomination. Unto the Locust and Bloodstone & Diamonds kept that momentum going, and The Burning Red is also among their best-loved records. Of Kingdom and Crown, their first concept album, followed in 2022, and Unatoned arrived in 2025.
