Judas Priest
Judas Priest are an English heavy metal band who formed in Birmingham in 1969. The core of singer Rob Halford, bassist Ian Hill and guitarists Glenn Tipton and K. K. Downing carried them through a 1970s spent without major commercial success, with a rotating cast of drummers behind them. Scott Travis has held the drumstick since 1989. Halford left in 1992, Tim "Ripper" Owens sang on two albums from 1996, and Halford returned in 2003. Richie Faulkner replaced Downing in 2011.
Their breakthrough came with 1980's British Steel, which The Guardian called the record that defines heavy metal. Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith and Painkiller are also among their most-played albums. Their influence reaches into speed, thrash and power metal, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Their latest album is Invincible Shield, from 2024.
