AC/DC
AC/DC formed in Sydney in 1973, founded by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young on lead and rhythm guitar. They call their sound simply rock and roll, though it has also been filed under hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal. Their stripped-back approach became a formative influence on British bands such as Def Leppard and Saxon.
The line-up settled around Bon Scott's vocals after Let There Be Rock in 1977. Scott died seven months after Highway to Hell, and Brian Johnson stepped in for Back in Black (1980), one of the best-selling albums ever made. The Razors Edge (1990) brought a fresh surge of success, and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976) remains a fan favourite. Their most recent record is Power Up (2020), and they have sold an estimated 200 million records worldwide.
