Dio
Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and fronted by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. He started it after leaving Black Sabbath, teaming up with drummer Vinny Appice, another former Sabbath member. Over the years the line-up kept shifting, with Dio himself the only constant, and the guitar slot passed through a long list of players including Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson.
The band's sound sits in heavy metal and hard rock, built around Dio's voice. Ten studio albums followed, beginning with Holy Diver in 1983 and ending with Master of the Moon in 2004. Holy Diver, The Last in Line, Dream Evil and Sacred Heart are the records people return to most. The band came to an end in 2010, when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer aged 67. He had sold over 50 million records worldwide.
