Metal Hits
Metal Hits is a compilation from Dio, released on 4 October 2005. It gathers material from the band's early run, drawing on the records made between Holy Diver in 1983 and Lock Up the Wolves in 1990, and leaves out Ronnie James Dio's earlier stints fronting Rainbow and Black Sabbath. Among the tracks are "Sunset Superman", "Dream Evil" and "The Last in Line".
It sits in the story as a single-disc look at the first phase of Dio's own group, long after those albums first appeared and a year after Master of the Moon. The appeal is hearing the Gothic-leaning songs and the mystic, sword-and-sorcery side of the band side by side, all carried by Ronnie James Dio's remarkable voice. For anyone who wants the 1980s Dio sound without tracking down every studio album, it makes a handy starting point.
