Odds & Sods
Odds & Sods gathers studio outtakes from the Who, pulled together by bassist John Entwistle. Ten of its eleven songs had never been released, which made it an early example of a band opening the cupboard on its unreleased recordings. Entwistle felt there was enough material for a double album, and two LPs' worth of songs were considered, though only one appeared.
It came out on 4 October 1974 on MCA Records, arriving between Quadrophenia and The Who by Numbers in the band's story. It reached No. 10 in the UK and No. 15 in the US. Later archive collections such as Who's Missing followed the same path, so it is worth hearing both for the rarities themselves and as the record that set the pattern for that kind of release.
