Raise Your Fist and Yell
Raise Your Fist and Yell is Alice Cooper's tenth solo album and seventeenth studio album overall, released on 5 September 1987 by MCA Records. It follows Constrictor, and carries on that record's fondness for slasher-film imagery. Robert Englund, the man behind Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street films, turns up as a guest on "Lock Me Up", while "Prince of Darkness" is heard briefly in John Carpenter's film of the same name, where Cooper also appears as a murderous vagrant. The song plays on the Walkman of one of his victims.
Hard rock and heavy metal sit at the heart of the sound. "Freedom" was the album's only single and came with a video. It is also a one-off line-up: Ken K. Mary is on drums here and on no other Cooper record, and Kip Winger plays bass for the second and last time. Jim Warren painted the cover. For Cooper fans, it's a good snapshot of his late-eighties horror-metal phase.
