Mötley Crüe
Mötley Crüe formed in Hollywood in 1981, when bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee teamed up with guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil. They began as a hard rock and heavy metal band on Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil, then joined the first wave of glam metal with Theatre of Pain in 1985. Their wild, sometimes androgynous look and hedonistic reputation were matched by stage shows full of pyrotechnics, flame-throwing guitars and a roller coaster drum kit.
Dr. Feelgood, from 1989, is their only studio album to top the Billboard 200, and it sits alongside Shout at the Devil, Girls, Girls, Girls and Theatre of Pain as the records fans return to most. The band has sold over 100 million records. John Corabi replaced Neil from 1992 to 1996, and a reunion followed in 2018 alongside the Netflix film The Dirt. In 2022 John 5 took over from Mars on tour.
