Quiet Riot
Quiet Riot formed in Los Angeles in 1973, started by guitarist Randy Rhoads, bassist Kelly Garni and vocalist Kevin DuBrow, with Drew Forsyth on drums. Early on the band was troubled, and Garni was eventually sacked after making death threats against DuBrow. Their sound sits across hard rock, heavy metal and glam metal, with a good deal of glam rock swagger.
The line-up that made the biggest mark paired DuBrow with guitarist Carlos Cavazo, bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Frankie Banali. Their 1983 album Metal Health became the first heavy metal record to reach the top of the Billboard album chart, and it brought hits in "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" and their cover of Slade's "Cum On Feel the Noize". Condition Critical, QR III and Alive and Well are also well regarded. DuBrow died in 2007, but Banali revived the band in 2010, and it has kept recording and touring since, with Quiet Riot 10, Road Rage and Hollywood Cowboys all following.
