QR III
QR III is the fifth studio album by the American band Quiet Riot, released in August 1986 on Pasha. It followed Metal Health and Condition Critical, and it marks a change of direction. Where those two records leaned on straight heavy metal, this one moves towards a more melodic glam metal and hard rock sound.
The most noticeable addition is the keyboard work of John Purdell, which brings touches of AOR into the band's usual guitar-driven approach. That makes it a useful record for hearing how Quiet Riot tried to reshape their sound in the middle of the 1980s. Fans who know the band mainly for their heavier early-decade material may find it an interesting contrast, with a smoother and more polished edge. The band would return in 1988 with a self-titled album.
