Slipknot

Slipknot formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995, founded by percussionist Shawn Crahan, vocalist Anders Colsefni and bassist Paul Gray. By 1999 the band had settled into a nine-piece, and they became known for their attention-grabbing image, aggressive sound and chaotic, high-energy live shows. Their music sits across nu metal, alternative metal and heavy metal.

Their self-titled debut arrived in 1999 and took them to fame quickly. Iowa followed in 2001, darker and more brutal, and brought them a bigger following still. Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) came in 2004, and All Hope Is Gone in 2008 debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. Gray's death in 2010 reshaped the band, but they returned with .5: The Gray Chapter in 2014, followed by We Are Not Your Kind and The End, So Far.
