Static‐X

Static-X are an American industrial metal band who formed in Los Angeles in 1994. Wayne Static, the frontman, vocalist and rhythm guitarist, founded the group with drummer Ken Jay and kept the line-up anchored until his death in 2014. Their heavy, electronic-tinged sound found an audience during the nu metal boom of the late 1990s.

The debut, Wisconsin Death Trip, arrived in 1999 and eventually went platinum in the United States. Machine followed in 2001, then Shadow Zone, Start a War, Cannibal and Cult of Static, and by 2011 the band had sold over three million albums worldwide. Wisconsin Death Trip, Shadow Zone, Machine and Start a War remain the records people return to most. After a hiatus and a break-up, the surviving original members reformed in 2018 in Static's honour and released Project: Regeneration Vol. 1 in 2020, followed by Vol. 2 in January 2024.
