KMFDM
KMFDM formed in Hamburg in 1984 as a performance art project led by Sascha Konietzko. The early line-up featured drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, who left and rejoined several times. Konietzko and Esch later moved to the United States and found far greater success with the pioneering industrial label Wax Trax!. The band split in 1999, and Konietzko revived it in 2002 on Metropolis Records.
The sound mixes heavy metal riffs with electronics, samples and both male and female vocals, spanning industrial metal and electronic body music. Konietzko calls it "The Ultra-Heavy Beat". The lyrics are fiercely political, taking aim at violence, war and oppression. Start with [symbols], Nihil, Angst and Hau Ruck, the albums fans return to most. If you like Nine Inch Nails, Ministry or Rammstein, this is a natural next stop.
