White Zombie

White Zombie were a New York City band who formed in 1985 and began life as a noise rock outfit. They put out three EPs and a debut album, Soul-Crusher, in that style, with Make Them Die Slowly following in 1989, before shifting to a heavier, metal-minded sound that carried them into the mainstream. They called it a day officially in 1998.

That change of direction produced the records most people come back to. La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1 (1992) helped establish them as an influential name in groove metal, while Astro-Creep: 2000 (1995) did the same for industrial metal. Start with "Thunder Kiss '65", "Black Sunshine" and "More Human than Human", then work backwards to the rougher early albums to hear where it all began.
