Thunder are a hard rock band from London, formed in 1989 by Danny Bowes, Luke Morley and Gary "Harry" James, who had all been in Terraplane, along with Ben Matthews and Mark "Snake" Luckhurst. Their sound leans on blues-tinged hard rock, and they signed to EMI before their debut, Backstreet Symphony, arrived in 1990. It reached number 21 in the UK, and its follow-up, Laughing on Judgement Day, climbed to number 2 in 1992. Both went gold, and all nine singles from the pair reached the UK top 40.

The story since has had a few turns. Behind Closed Doors (1995) peaked at number 5 with a new bassist, Mikael Höglund. The band split in 2000, returned in 2002 with their own label, STC Recordings, and split again in 2009 before coming back in 2011. Wonder Days (2015) reached number 9, and Rip It Up (2017) went to number 3. All the Right Noises (2021) is among the records fans know best today.
