UAIOE
UAIOE is an album by the German industrial band KMFDM, released on 7 October 1989 on Wax Trax! Records. Its place in the band's story is a little confusing on paper: it sits fourth in the studio discography, after Opium, What Do You Know, Deutschland? and Don't Blow Your Top, and ahead of Naïve in 1990. It sits in the territory where industrial rock meets electronic and alternative rock.
What makes it fun is how openly it plays with rock history. The title track leans heavily on the lyrical habits of Frank Zappa, while "En Esch" is effectively a lyrical cover of Deep Purple's "Demon's Eye", complete with the opening riff from Slayer's "Jesus Saves". It's a record for anyone who enjoys hearing 1970s rock and thrash get chewed up and rebuilt as industrial noise.
