Godflesh are an English industrial metal band from Birmingham, formed in 1988 by Justin Broadrick on guitar, vocals and programming and B. C. Green on bass and programming. The two had previously worked together in Fall of Because, which began in 1982 as O.P.D. Their sound joined hip hop-influenced drum programming, heavy riffs and industrial dissonance, with harsh machine beats, prominent bass and low, guttural vocals. For most of their career they played as a duo over preprogrammed percussion, often against apocalyptic imagery and Christian iconography.

Streetcleaner (1989), their debut for Earache Records, remains the best-known record, and several publications have named it among the heaviest and greatest metal albums. Pure (1992) followed, then Selfless (1994), after which live drums and breakbeat ideas crept in. They split in 2002, reformed in 2009, and returned with A World Lit Only by Fire (2014) and Post Self (2017), both well received. Purge arrived in 2023.
