Post Self
Post Self is the eighth studio album by English industrial metal band Godflesh, released on 17 November 2017. It was their second record since reforming in 2010, following A World Lit Only by Fire in 2014. The singles "Post Self" and "Be God" were streamed ahead of release, and the band avoided interviews afterwards, hoping listeners would take in the music without commentary.
The sound leans away from the band's metal side and towards their industrial and post-punk elements. Its themes are anxiety, fear and loss of self. Critics responded warmly, and several publications placed it on their year-end lists. It reached 23 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. For anyone who knows Godflesh through their crushing early work, it is a more austere and unsettling listen, and a good measure of where the band stood after their return.
