Streetcleaner
Streetcleaner is the debut studio album by English industrial metal band Godflesh, released on 13 November 1989. It came out in the UK through Earache Records, with a US release via Combat Records following in December 1990. It was assembled across three separate sessions, partly built from demos made before the band took the Godflesh name, and it was reissued in 2010 with a second disc of previously unheard material.
What you hear is weighty and bleak. Machine percussion drives everything, the bass and drums sit louder than metal usually allows, and the guitar works as screeching noise rather than a string of riffs. Touring with Napalm Death helped the band build an international following, particularly in North America. Neurosis, Fear Factory and Isis have all cited it as an influence, and Rolling Stone placed it 64th in its 2017 list of the greatest metal albums.
